Welcome to the 2023 Cascade County 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational!

The event will be located at the Exhibition Hall at the Montana ExpoPark (400 3rd St. NW, Great Falls, MT 59404) on February 17, 2024. The entry deadline is February 9, 2024, after this date please contact the Extension office (406-454-6980) for available shooting times. Youth must be currently enrolled in a Montana 4-H Shooting Sports Program to participate.

Archery

  • Target Bow Events are: Primitive Bow, Bare Bow, Limited Bow, Bow Hunter, Unlimited, and Olympic Recurve. Each shooter may shoot up to 3 target bow events.
  • Classes are based on the member's 4-H age (as of October 1, 2023).
  • Target Bow Event shooting times available are: 9AM, 10AM, 11AM, 12PM, 1PM, 2PM, 3PM, and 4PM. The adult fun shoot will be at 5PM. Times spots are first come, first served basis.
  • 3D Event Shooting Times available are: 9:30AM, 11AM, 12:30PM, 2PM, and 3:30PM.
  • Cost per archery event is $15.00.

Air Gun

  • Air Gun Divisions are: Air Rifle - Prone and Three Position (3P); Air Pistol - based on age division.
  • Classes are based on the member's 4-H age (as of October 1, 2023).
  • Time spots are first come, first served basis.
  • Cost is $15.00 per discipline.
  • ANSI Z87 or higher eye protection is mandatory, and hearing protection is recommended.
  • No boots or high-top shoes - ankle bone cannot be supported; shoes must be worn at all times.
  • Ammunition will be .177 match grade (flat-face) pellets. Air rifles and air pistols must be .177 with iron sights.
  • All air guns manufactured with safeties must be intact. Clear barrel or open bolt indicators are required.
  • 2022-2024 National Standard Air Rifle Rules (https://thecmp.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/3PARRules.pdf?vers=120820) and USA Shooting NRA Progressive Position Air Pistol Rules (https://www.usashooting.org/library/Competitions/0_2019/PPP/2019_USAS_PPP_Rules) will apply.

Air Rifle:

This is a sporter class for air rifles: precision rifles and clothing will not be allowed. Coaches may assist shooters by pumping the rifle only. Please bring your own mats, kneeling rolls, stands, and eye protection. The procedure for Section 9 Protests and Appeals will be followed.

Age categories will be as follows: 9-10; 11-12; 13-14; and 15+.

Air Rifle (3P):

  • 10 shots prone, 10 shots standing, 10 shots kneeling at 10 meters
  • Web slings are allowed in prone and kneeling
  • Shooting gloves are allowed
  • Shooters must bring their own shooting mats and kneeling rolls
  • A spotting scope, scope stand, or binoculars are allowed

Air Rifle Prone:

  • 40 shots at 10 meters
  • Equipment allowed is the same as 3P

Air Rifle Shooting Times available are:

Prone: 12PM AND 1:30PM

3P: 3PM

Times spots are first come, first served basis.

Air Pistol:

The air pistol match consists of 40 shots fired at 10 meters. The target heights will be 55" for all positions. Shooters are allowed 1.5 minutes per shot. A spotting scope, scope stand, and binoculars are allowed. Ranking of scores will be done by age groups. If a competitor chooses to shoot in a position that is more advanced, they will still be scored in the appropriate age group.

  • Ages 9-12 - Basic Supported: two hands sitting table rest with support allowed. Hand or butt of pistol allowed on rest, but the barrel may not be on rest. Elbows are allowed on the table.
  • Ages 13-14 - Standing Supported: One hand standing with T-Stand.
  • Ages 9-14 - Sub-Junior International Standing: One-handed, unsupported.
  • Ages 15+ - International Standing: One-handed, unsupported.

Air Pistol Shooting Times available are: 8:30AM and 10AM

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Arrive at least half an hour early so you are ready to shoot on time.
  • Montana 4-H Shooting Sports Rules will be followed in all competitive categories.
  • No flash photography during rounds.
  • Set cell phones to silent ring or shut them off.
  • Non-competitors must remain in designated spectator areas.
  • Range commanders and event leaders have ultimate authority over ranges. Notify range commanders of any problems or questions as soon as possible.
  • Obey all cease fire commands immediately.
  • By registering you agree to all rules as set forth in this registration and in MT 4-H policy.
  • After registrations have closed, shooting times will be confirmed by email.
  • Concessions will be available.
